Parenting can improve happiness
While there's no denying the fact that parenthood can be stressful, new research suggests being a parent can boost happiness and provide more meaning in life, according to the findings of a study published in the journal Psychological Science.Researchers from the University of British Columbia, University of California at Riverside and Stanford University looked at three studies involving both Canadian and American parents. They found that overall parents reported being happier and more satisfied with their lives when compared to childless people.
"This series of studies suggest that parents are not nearly the 'miserable creatures' we might expect from recent studies and popular representations," said study co-author Elizabeth Dunn.
The study found that older, married parents were the happiest, and fathers reported a more positive outlook than mothers in general.
Being a parent can be challenging in different ways. Many parents who worry about the financial stress of raising kids should know that shopping for used baby gear, used clothes, used toys and other items can help them save money while ensuring their kids have everything they need.
