Is it ok to have alcohol while pregnant?
Just like ensuring you purchase safe baby products and toys for your little one, most expectant parents follow the advice of experts when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle while they're pregnant. However, a new study questions one bit of advice pregnant women have long been given - to avoid drinking alcohol.
According to HealthDay News, researchers in Denmark analyzed data on more than 1,600 women. They found those who drank moderate amounts of alcohol (between one and eight drinks each week) during pregnancy did not jeopardize their children's neurological or psychological development.
However, experts say the study is misleading and other studies have shown that alcohol is, in fact, dangerous to a developing child.
"Although we do not want to alarm women who find out they are pregnant and realize that they have consumed low levels of alcohol before they knew they were pregnant, we emphasize that a 'safe'’ amount of alcohol that any individual woman can drink while pregnant is impossible to establish," said Dr. Christina Chambers. "The best advice continues to be that women should avoid alcohol entirely during the nine months that she is carrying the baby."
